CORDILLERA STUDIES COLLECTION LIBRARY

The Cordillera Studies Collection Library traces its history to the establishment of two libraries under two different organizations of UP Baguio namely, the Cordillera Section under the Filipiniana Section of the Main Library and a special library under the Cordillera Studies Center, the research and extension arm of the Social Sciences Division, now the College of Social Sciences. With the construction of a Library building in 1988, the Cordillera Studies Center Library was allotted a space, although management of the special library remained under the jurisdiction of the CSC.

Initial plans in 1990 to integrate the collection of the CSC Library to the Main Library were drafted but did not push through. The idea was revived in 2002 to solve the manpower problem and to open the Library on a continuing basis. Finally, in December 2003, the Cordillera Studies Center Library was fully integrated into the Main Library.

Housed at the third floor of the Library annex, the Cordillera Library’s acquisition policy has been geared towards the acquisition of materials that support the continuing mission of the University in sustaining its niche in Cordillera studies. The vision of the Cordillera Library is to have an exhaustive collection of Cordillera materials with the aim of providing information to students, faculty, staff as well as non-UP researchers. To date the Library has a wide array of print as well as non-print materials that showcase the Cordillera’s colorful storied past and the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province and the city of Baguio.

Cordillera materials are for room use only and are on closed stacks. To borrow materials, check the OPAC for the title, author and call number of the book that you need. Hand in these data to the staff-in-charge at the Section.
